The designed environment not only touches the present. It is always embedded in the time of its creation, presenting itself as transformed or preserved, promising the future or as a testimony to the past. What is the significance of building cultural heritage against the background of current positions of critical questioning, reinterpretation, appropriation and repurposing of power-theoretical and socio-critical discourses as well as local challenges? We pose questions about material cultural heritage and our designed, built environment with the site-specific historical, political and social inscriptions and search together for interdisciplinary answers for the future.
